What The Academy Does

The Classical Academy of Arms credentials trainers who teach classical fencing in the ranks of Classical Fencing Demonstrator, Classical Fencing Instructor, Classical Fencing Provost, and Classical Fencing Master. The Academy's training courses and examinations are based on the practice of fencing in the period 1880-1940 as described by contemporary texts and other evidence. Our programs are not School specific, but do expect candidates to show a broad knowledge of classical fencing as a whole, a detailed knowledge of their School, and a high degree of competency at the appropriate level in methods of instruction and training. This blog is used to provide technical discussions of specific technique and tactics of the classical period. The Classical Academy of Arms is recognized by the International Fencing Coaches Assoication and is accredited by the National Committee for the Accreditation of Coaching Education.
